Block paving can often be professionally cleaned, but the condition of the joints, surface and drainage matters. Using more pressure isn't always the answer.
What can go wrong with excessive pressure?
A forceful jet can disturb jointing sand or damage worn surfaces. Older, loose or already damaged blocks require particular care. The cleaner should consider a suitable method for the material instead of treating every driveway alike.
What happens to the sand between blocks?
Cleaning can remove some loose material from joints. Depending on the driveway condition, re-sanding may be appropriate afterwards. It should be discussed as an additional part of the job rather than assumed to be included.
Will it remove oil stains and weeds?
Results vary. Moss and general dirt may improve, but old oil marks, staining and weeds can need extra treatment and may not disappear completely. The cleaner should explain realistic expectations before starting.
How should you describe the area?
- Give a rough idea of the area size and whether it is all block paving.
- Mention dips, cracked blocks, loose joints or poor drainage.
- Say whether you want the path, driveway and patio assessed together.
- Ask whether re-sanding or treatment is part of the proposed quote.
