Do I need gutter clearing or exterior gutter washing?

A simple way to tell a blocked gutter from a dirty-looking roofline.

The word “gutter cleaning” is used for two different jobs. One deals with the inside of the gutter, where rainwater flows. The other is the visible exterior, where staining builds up.

Gutter clearing

Choose this if leaves, moss, mud or other debris may be slowing drainage. It is aimed at removing accessible material inside the gutter channel. If a downpipe is blocked or the guttering is damaged, additional work may be needed.

Exterior gutter, fascia and soffit washing

This is about the visible outer surfaces beneath the roofline. Green marks, discolouration and streaking can make otherwise functional guttering look tired. Cleaning these outside surfaces does not automatically clear blockages within the system.

When would you ask for both?

If water is overflowing and the outside of the roofline is also dirty, describe both issues. The provider can assess whether the jobs can be carried out together and give a combined quotation. Don't assume the work or materials are identical.

What about gutter repairs?

Leaking joints, sagging runs or broken brackets are not solved by cleaning. Flag any visible damage. The provider may quote for minor adjustments separately or recommend a suitable specialist.
